It's no secret that technology keeps moving faster and faster.
So, how do we project where it’s headed?
The annual Horizon Report (now in its seventh year of publication) describes the continuing work of the New Media Consortium's Horizon Project, a research-oriented effort that seeks to identify and describe these emerging technologies.
Alan Levine will introduce the six technologies covered in the 2011 Horizon Report and describe how they identify and select the topics. He will show examples of how each technology is being used in higher education and training. In addition, he will provide a live demo of the new Horizon Project Navigator (http://navigator.nmc.org/), a web-based dynamic database of all past and ongoing Horizon Project research.

Presenter: Until recently, Alan Levine served as Vice President and CTO for the New Media Consortium (NMC), an international consortium of learning-focused organizations dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies.
Alan is widely recognized nationally and internationally for expertise in the application of new technologies to educational environments and was a pioneer on the web going back to 1993. An early proponent of blogs and RSS for information sharing, he shares his ideas and discoveries at CogDogBlog (cogdogblog.com). More recently, he has been interested in new forms of web 2.0 storytelling, such as his 50+ Web 2.0 Ways To Tell a Story, digital photography, and the ever expanding range of social/professional networking tools for connecting and sharing what we do online.
Before joining the NMC, Alan spent 14 years as an Instructional Technologist at the Maricopa Community Colleges in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was actively engaged in research and development of learning technologies.
