Success Stories: How to

effectively use stories to make your message stick

Stories at work? You bet!

Stories are a hot topic today because neuroscientists now know that stories activate the brain in ways that are far more creative than the words we’re reading or hearing.  Stories activate memories, trigger emotions (where we buy and buy in), and resonate in personal ways that make the message - your message.

Set your training, speaking, and writing apart with stories.  (Most people overlook this easy and fun tool, so you’ll stand out!)  We’ll explore how to find and capture stories, how to start with a bang and finish with a flourish, and how to keep your middle from sagging.

“People don’t want more information.  They are up to their eyeballs in information. They want faith - faith in you, your goals, your success, in the story you tell.”

- Annette Simmons, The Story Factor

During this 90-minute session, we’ll cover how to:

  1. Integrate stories into your written and oral presentations.
  2. Structure stories with six key steps to get the results you want.
  3. Tap into the storyteller’s toolkit to boost your creativity.
  4. Create a story inventory.
  5. Build your confidence as a storyteller.

You will leave this interactive presentation knowing how to tell a good story, develop a story repertoire, activate your audience or readers’ brains in ways far more creative than the words they’re reading or hearing, and increase the results of your training, writing, and speaking engagements.

Presenter:  Lynda McDaniel has been telling stories at work for three decades (which doesn’t include all the tall tales she told as a kid!).  For the past six years, she’s shared the fruits of her life (a long career as a professional writer and journalist) so that her clients can enjoy increased results, respect, and revenues through effective storytelling and business writing. She offers business writing webinars, workshops, and assessments to teach writing and storytelling skills that gain and retain clients.

Clients for her coaching and training include executives and staff from Microsoft, T-Mobile, Boeing, Del Monte, Key Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, U.S. Small Business Administration, City of Seattle, University of Washington, University of Notre Dame, Stanford University, YMCA, among many others.

Lynda has written over 1,000 stories for major publications and a dozen books, including her award-winning books, Words at Work and Contemporary Hawaiian Woodworkers.  Major publications include Southern Living, Country Living, Yoga Journal, AmericanStyle, Law & Politics, Associations Now, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, American Cinematographer, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, guideposts.com, and washingtonpost.com.

Lynda is working on her first novel, incorporating stories from her 15 years in the hollers of Appalachia. http://www.afcbw.com
